A ‘Donde nadie te encuentre’, Alicia Giménez Bartlett (Almansa, 1951) presenta un retrato de Florencio Pla Messeguer, un maquis de sexo ambiguo —sufría pseudohermafrodismo masculino— nacido en la comarca dels Ports (País Valencià). Conocido popularmente como la Pastora, durante el franquismo, este guerrillero aterrorizó la Guardia Civil y los payeses que vivían en el massís del Port.
Un personaje tan complejo como Florencio Pla Messeguer —la Pastora— se tiene que abordar desde varios puntos de vista y, para conseguirlo, la autora ha escrito una novela con dos líneas narrativas en paralelo. Se trata de una técnica frecuente a la hora de ficcionar la vida de personajes históricos (sin ir más lejos, también la utilizó Andreu Carranza en la novela ‘El invierno del Tigre’, sobre las gestas general carlino Ramon Cabrera).
En el caso de la novela sobre la Pastora, la primera de las líneas argumentales está protagonizada por un periodista barcelonés y un psiquiatra francés especializado en el estudio de personalidades psicopatológicas. El año 1956, los dos viajan hasta Tortosa, la Sénia, Morella y Santa Bàrbara para intentar contactar con el maquis, en aquel momento escondido en la montaña. Los dos tendrán que sortear la vigilancia de la Guardia Civil y las miradas intimidatorias de los habitantes de una tierra que les resulta absolutamente forastera. El segundo hilo narrativo, da voz a la misma Pastora, en un diálogo interior que permite acercarse a un personaje humano, y a la vez, muy primitivo.
Pero más allá de conseguir un retrato más o menos prismático de la Pastora, Alicia Giménez Bartlett nos describe como era la posguerra a los pueblos que bordean el massís del Port. La autora presenta un panorama desolador —la dinámica de los vencedores y vencidos—, germen de unas relaciones humanas y sociales deprimentes, con unos payeses atemorizados y asediados, a la vez, por los asaltos de las guerrillas antifranquistas y la mano dura de la Guardia Civil. Entre tanto dramatismo, es agradecido el contrapunto que aporta el personaje de Lucien Nourrissier, el psiquiatra francés, que con ingenuidad descontrolada intenta extrapolar el modelo de sociedad francesa a la dureza cotidiana de la dictadura franquista.
La obra original está escrita en español, y me consta que estos días se está preparando la traducción al catalán. Creo que el relato ganará teniendo en cuenta que es la lengua materna con que se expresaban la mayor parte de personajes históricos que recrea la novela, pero sobre todo porque permitirá remarcar la riqueza dialectal del catalán que se habla al norte del País Valencià.
‘Donde nadie te encuentre’ es una novela que combina con equilibrio la acción detectivesca, la descripción histórica —se nota que la autora se ha pisado el terreno—, el análisis psicológico de los personajes y donde la autora hace gala de su dominio de la novela policiaca — ha publicado una quincena. En los últimos capítulos, un giro argumental cierra una trama muy redonda, que constata la habilidad de Giménez Bartlett para sorprender el lector. Ahora bien, al relato acaba en 1956, cuando a la Pastora todavía le queda mucha vida por adelantado: el segundo viaje en Andorra, la detención, el periplo por las prisiones femeninas, los juicios de guerra…. Quién lo sabe, quizás ya se prepara una segunda parte.
